Tracking Martin Strel’s World Record Attempt
Today, we started tracking Martin Strel’s 5430 kilometer swim along the Amazon River. If Strel succeeds, he will be the first man to swim the entire length of the Amazon, beating his previous world records of swimming the Mississippi (3797 km) and the Yangtze (4003 km) rivers. But this project is different to Strel’s previous achievements, as he may have to face piranhas, crocodiles, and other dangerous animals that lurk in the murky waters of the great river.
Martin’s team is equipped with two Sony GPS-CS1 receivers, which we are using to track his progress on this map. We will update his position daily for the next 70 days, which is how long this exceptional feat is expected to take… So stay tuned!
Note: The embeddable map control used to track Martin is a hint of things to come on triptracker.net.
